Terminology: In order to emphasize the Jewish nature of the apostolic canon and its central figure I use the terms Tanakh (Old Testament), Besekh (New Testament), Torah (Law), Yeshua (Jesus), and Messiah (Christ).

These are questions on the biblical text of Hebrews 2. These questions are provided to stimulate thoughtful analysis with the goal of understanding the text. Consideration should also be given to how the text has application in real life. This document is available without charge and may be freely copied for group use.

 

2:1. How does this verse connect to the previous chapter? What should we take heed of? What danger does Paul mention?

2:2. Who in Scripture was given instruction by angels that required obedience? What happened to people who disobeyed messages from angels? What spiritual principle is confirmed by these historical examples?

2:3. What danger does neglect create? What message did the Lord Jesus proclaim? What was confirmed to the apostles and to Paul? (cf. Acts 9:10-17, 26-28; Gal 2:9)

2:11 What is said about those who are sanctified? What difference does it make to be a brother or sister to Jesus?

2:12 What psalm is quoted? What is significant about this psalm? What will Jesus do? What does this promise imply?

2:13 What Scripture is quoted? What does Jesus say about himself in this verse?

2:14 What is the fourth reason that Jesus was made lower than angels? How is the humanity of Jesus described? Who has the power of death? What was the result of the death of Jesus?

2:15 What is the fifth reason that Jesus was made lower than angels? What did the death of Jesus accomplish?

2:16 What is the sixth reason that Jesus was made lower than angels? Who is it that Jesus came to help?

2:17 What is the seventh reason that Jesus was made lower than angels? Why did Jesus have to become like his brethren? (Who are his brethren?) What Scripture is alluded to? For whom did Jesus provide atonement?

2:18 What is the eighth reason that Jesus was made lower than angels? What tests did Jesus experience? What conclusion is drawn from the suffering of Jesus?
